Overview
This standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to set up equipment in the fabrication of glass supporting systems. The equipment is used to undertake work activities, and you are expected to be able to set it up to meet a range of requirements. This will involve obtaining the specifications for the products or materials that are being worked on and determining the correct settings for the equipment. You then have to monitor the equipment during operation and identify any indications of malfunction or poor performance.
This unit applies to operatives who fabricate windows, doors, conservatories and curtain walling.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times
- obtain specifications for the work being undertaken
- select suitable equipment and confirm it is available and safe for use
- determine appropriate settings for the equipment to meet specifications
- check settings are adjusted on equipment to meet specifications
- operate equipment following standard operating procedures and manufacturers' instructions
- check monitoring and control systems are fully functional and meet specifications
- check monitoring and control systems are accessible, clear of obstructions and debris, and clean following standard operating procedures
- confirm items liable to damage equipment are removed following standard operating procedures
- check equipment is cleared of debris, dirt, and other materials that affects its ability to operate following standard operating procedures
- identify any problems deal with them following standard operating procedures
- record information in the appropriate information systems
