Performance criteria
You must be able to:
Keep over-printing machinery in a clean and safe operating condition
- clean machinery following manufacturer's instructions, safe systems of work and codes of practice
- check it is safe to start cleaning activities following standard operating procedures
- supervise cleaning work of any machine assistants under your direction
- run machinery to clean it checking all guards are in place and functioning before starting work
- isolate machinery before starting cleaning following standard operating procedures
- use cleaning equipment and materials suitable for machinery
- remove any build-up of materials and dust in or around machinery following standard operating procedures
- clean filters, grippers, cylinders, rollers, wash-up devices, sleeves, ducts, troughs and re-circulating equipment following standard operating procedures
- use suitable personal protective equipment following standard operating procedures
- dispose of used cleaning agents and waste materials following current environmental regulations
- check machinery is safe to operate, and all guards are fitted on completion

Maintain multi-colour over-printing machinery in working order
**
- obtain schedule of maintenance for machinery following standard operating procedures
- identify lubrication points on machinery and manufacturer's recommended types of lubricant and lubrication intervals
- check maintenance plans are implemented and kept up to date as far as is possible within the time allowed by your company for lubrication and maintenance
- replenish and use lubrication equipment following standard operating procedures
- identify filters on machinery and on associated equipment following standard operating procedures
- check filters are cleaned and/or replaced following standard operating procedures
- examine presses for defective components or excessive wear at regular intervals
- remove and replace defective or worn components following standard operating procedures
- keep records of faults that occur or are developing and check that action is taken to deal with them
- change blankets or image transfer or impression materials following standard operating procedures
- check ink metering and transfer parts/consumables are in serviceable condition and set to the manufacturer's specifications
- replace ink metering and transfer parts/consumables following standard operating procedures
- maintain a list of parts or consumables likely to require periodic replacement and identify those parts that may be required at short notice
- check parts or consumables identified as being required to be kept 'in stock' are available in the required quantities
