Overview
This standard is about conducting post maintenance activity related to the configuration of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment in the electricity power utilities environment.
This standard is suitable for a crafts person or technician working in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of wind turbine components in the power utilities environment.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- follow and maintain safe working and environment practices in accordance with your organisation’s requirements throughout the duration of the work
- use your organisation’s documentation and work instructions to determine the work location
- conduct a site-specific risk assessment in accordance with your organisation’s requirements
- develop a work plan that includes the content and sequence of tasks needed to complete the work activity
- inform parties directly and indirectly responsible for completing the work activity of the work plan
- carry out all work in accordance with your organisation’s policy and work instructions
- prepare to configure plant and apparatus
- inspect, prepare and carry out pre use checks on tools equipment in accordance with your organisation’s requirements
- select and wear required personal protective equipment when completing work activities in accordance with your organisation’s requirements
- confirm that the correct authorisation to configure the plant and apparatus is in place, in accordance with your organisation’s requirements
- apply and adhere to control measures in accordance with the requirements of the Safe System of Work (SSOW)
- follow prescribed setting-up procedures for the equipment to be configured
- check the configured equipment meets its specified operating parameters and performance requirements
- store tools and equipment on completion of the work activity in accordance with your organisation’s requirements
- dispose of waste materials and substances in accordance with your organisation’s requirements
- leave the work area in a condition which is in accordance with your organisation’s requirements
- report unavailable or defective tools, equipment and resources in accordance with your organisation’s reporting procedures
- read and interpret your organisation’s work instructions and documentation
- deal with problems within the limits of your own job role responsibility
- report problems outside your job role responsibility to designated Personnel in accordance with your organisation’s reporting procedures
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- your responsibilities under current environmental, health and safety legislation and your organisation’s procedures in relation to the work to be carried out
- your organisation’s reporting lines and authorisation roles and responsibilities
- your organisation’s policies and procedures that directly impact on the work to be undertaken
- the plant and apparatus being configured, its purpose, operation and function
- your organisation’s procedures and processes for reporting problems with tools and equipment
- the procedures and information sources to be applied to make sure that tools and equipment are fit for purpose and safe to use
- what personal protective equipment needs to be worn when undertaken work activities
- how to maintain safe working and environmental practices throughout the duration of the work
- how to minimise risks to self and others when undertaking work activities
- your organisation’s work instructions, information and reporting systems and documentation
- how to respond to the different types and categories of emergency situations that might occur
- how to read, interpret and apply prescribed “setting-up” documentation and procedures for configuring equipment
- how to report inaccurate and incorrect work instructions and documentation in line with your organisation’s procedures
