Transport waste
Overview
This standard defines the competence required to transport waste. It involves being able to operate and control a waste transport vehicle (with or without attachments), monitoring and reviewing the vehicle's (and its attachments) performance and the operating schedule in compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements. This
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
Operate and control a waste transport vehicle
- carry out daily routine checks on the vehicle in accordance with
operational procedures
- confirm the operational suitability of the vehicle and specialist
equipment
- ensure the vehicle is suitable for the task and that any required
additional equipment is available and fit for use
- select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in
accordance with operational requirements
- drive and manoeuvre the vehicle safely in line with training and
operational procedures
- drive the vehicle in a manner which minimises wear and tear, the risk
of accidental damage, and maximises efficiency
- drive in a manner which shows consideration for others and
minimises risk to oneself and the crew
- drive and operate the vehicle legally
- confirm the load is secure and stable before moving off
- monitor continuously the condition of the vehicle and its load by
observing the vehicles performance, and report any problems in
accordance with operational procedures
- follow operational procedures in the event of accident, breakdown,
and other problems
Use and communicate data and information related to the
transportation of waste
- complete and sign the daily vehicle and vehicle attachments
checks documentation
- report problems which arise from the vehicle and vehicle
attachments check
- record variations in vehicle and vehicle attachments performance
- complete operational documentation
- confirm regulatory documentation and signage is completed and
positioned accurately
Resolve problems which arise with the transportation of waste
- report variations in vehicle performance
- take steps to resolve insecure or unstable loads and any aspects of
the vehicle that causes concern
- advise colleagues or managers of situations which require their
attention
- report situations which are outside the job role responsibilities in
line with operational procedures
- respond to falls fromvehicles, accidents, breakdowns or other
problems in line with organisational procedures
