Overview
This Standard is about carrying out inspections of premises to make sure they comply with current water fittings regulations. Premises can be domestic or non-domestic which could include commercial or agricultural premises. Inspections could be of contractors' work for audit purposes.
This includes agreeing inspection details with the people involved, carrying out inspections to determine compliance with regulations and recording and reporting on inspection information.
This Standard is for water fitting regulations and byelaws inspectors.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
Agree inspection details
- confirm the need for proposed inspections in line with organisational procedures
- confirm inspection details, special needs requirements, access requirements and any agreed security measures and procedures with those involved
- identify equipment which may be required to address safety issues and to carry out inspections in a safe manner
- follow organisational guidelines to ensure your personal security when lone working

6. communicate with customers in line with organisational procedures
- make accurate observations to confirm the accuracy of information about premises and systems, noting any amendments to be made
- use appropriate personal protective and access equipment when gaining access to systems
- terminate inspections when hazards encountered and risk assessments indicate unacceptable risk to yourself or others, informing relevant people of the details
- carry out inspections in a safe manner with minimum disruption or damage to premises
- deal with any damage caused to premises in line with organisational procedures
- use accurate information to identify installations that contravene regulations
- take immediate relevant action when contravention of regulations constitutes a serious risk
- propose solutions and actions which can be undertaken to ensure compliance
- identify any planned work activities which may impinge on future complianceRecord and report inspection information
- record the details of inspections in line with organizational procedures, including any implications for future inspections
- provide required formal notification to relevant people when non-compliance with regulations is identified
- agree a timescale for re-inspection with relevant people when contravention of regulations is identified
- check that relevant people understand the implications of identified contravention of regulations
- provide complete and accurate inspection information to relevant people according to organisational and regulatory requirements.
