Overview

This Standard is about monitoring sewerage networks with equipment. Equipment could include, but is not restricted to, monitors, sensors, drones, CCTV or tracing equipment. It includes making sure the equipment is working properly and is adjusted for best performance, using the equipment in line with instructions and interpreting and reporting findings. This Standard is for anyone who needs to monitor sewerage networks.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

"1. ensure equipment is working properly in accordance with
approved procedures and practices
2. adjust controls to get the best performance from equipment
3. investigate any faults in performance and report them to
appropriate people
4. organise your work area so that you can work in an efficient and
safe manner
5. use equipment in line with operating instructions and in
accordance with approved procedures and practices
6. use equipment in line with health, safety and environmental
procedures
7. recognise activities or incidents that should be reported without
delay in accordance with approved procedures and practices
8. control and use equipment to its full operational ability.
9. interpret and report findings to appropriate people
10. identify problems outside the scope of your job and report them to
appropriate people
11. record work activities in accordance with relevant company
procedures.
12. complete required records with legible and complete information
within required timescales"


Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

"1. regulatory and company procedures relevant to sewerage
maintenance including those relating to health, safety and the
environment
2. the capabilities and limitations of monitoring equipment including
monitors, sensors, drones, CCTV, tracing equipment
3. how to adjust, prepare and use equipment to get its best
4. current legislation, regulations and codes of practice relating to
using monitoring equipment
5. the operational instructions and procedures you should follow
when preparing and using monitoring equipment
6. how to confirm that equipment is working and what to do if it is not
7. the terminology associated with equipment usage health and
safety guidance relating to the use of monitoring equipment
8. the risks associated with confined spaces and the associated
procedures.
9. records that you need to make of: incidents, equipment, duties
and access
10. your responsibilities in relation to interpreting and reporting
findings
11. who to report to and when it is appropriate.
12. how to maintain effective and efficient working relationships with
others"
