Overview
This standard is about carrying out periodic examinations of gas storage vessels and supply systems. This could also apply to bulk supply vessels for single or multiple dwellings or for cylinders. Gas storage vessels and supply systems can be for any type of fuel gas.
This involves preparing the work area, obtaining information and specifications on condition and malfunctions, recording inspection details, informing relevant persons of inspection results, advising on corrective or further actions and complying with legislative requirements.
This standard is for anyone who is responsible for carrying out periodic examinations of gas storage vessels and supply systems.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. use given material and maintenance schedules to identify inspection checks to be made
2. identify and confirm acceptance criteria to be used with suppliers
3. select equipment that is appropriate for inspection and storage vessel type
4. confirm that equipment is in good working order and correctly calibrated
5. carry out all confirmed inspection checks at agreed intervals following inspection procedures that are appropriate for the type of storage vessel you are working with
6. complete all inspection tasks in line with industry codes of practice, industry standards and relevant regulations
7. identify and record clear, concise details of any defects or variations from specification in appropriate formats
8. ensure inspection reports are distributed to all relevant people and organisations

10. report problems that cannot be resolved to appropriate industry bodies

1. relevant statutory regulations, building regulations and standards, industry codes of practice, British and European standards and manufacturers' instructions, working procedures, safe working practices

3. how to access and interpret engineering drawings and related specifications
4. inspection methods and techniques
5. inspection equipment and how to use it
6. calibration requirements for inspection equipment
7. inspection equipment care and control procedures
8. identification of defects in products, equipment or systems
9. quality control systems and documentation procedures
10. when it is appropriate to report information
11. reporting lines and procedures
12. how to record test results and other relevant information
