Refurbish or replace sheeting and cladding on roofs or walls COSVR97 "This standard is about refurbishing or replacing sheeting and cladding on roofs or walls, interpreting information, adopting safe, healthy and environmentally responsible work practices, selecting and using materials, components, tools and equipment, in accordance with organisational requirements which are equal to or exceed current statutory and legislative requirements
This standard is for people working in the occupational area of cladding occupations and can be used by installers, supervisors and managers
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
Interpretation of information P1 interpret the information relating to the work and resources to confirm its relevance for the following: - drawings - specifications - programme - setting out lines and levels - schedules - method statements - risk assessments - manufacturers’ information - fixing strategy - inspection test plan - check sheet - Control of Substances Hazardous for Health (COSHH)
Safe work practices P2 comply with the relevant legislation and official guidance to carry out your work and maintain safe and healthy work practices relating to the following:
- methods of work
- safe use of health and safety control equipment including PPE
- safe use of access equipment
- safe use, storage and handling of materials, tools and equipment
- specific risks to health including mental health
- specific risks associated with asbestos containing materials
- securing loads and materials
- unloading and distribution
- identifying adverse weather conditions
Selection of resources P3 select the required quantities and qualities of the following resources for the methods of work in accordance with the fixing strategy

Minimise the risk of damage P4 comply with organisational procedures to minimise the risk of damage to the work and surrounding area by:
- taking relevant steps to protect the work and its surrounding area from damage
- maintaining a safe, clear and tidy work area
- disposing of waste in accordance with current legislation
Meet the contract specification P5 comply with the contract information to carry out the work efficiently to the required specification by the following:
- demonstrating work skills to identify, check, measure, mark out, cut, remove, clean, replace, align, position, fix and seal
- using and maintaining hand tools, power tools and associated equipment
- prepare resources and backgrounds to refurbish, strip and re-sheet or over-clad, sheeting and cladding on roofs or walls to given working instructions for at least one of the following systems:
- built up
- standing seam
- secret fix
- composite panel
- fibre cement
Allocated time P6 complete the work within the planned, allocated time in accordance with the contract information, the programme of work and to meet the needs of other occupations
