Overview
"This standard is about co-ordinating preparation for the site operations, involving the pre-start inspection of the place of work, the ongoing inspections during site set up and the action required to ensure the site is suitable for work to take place and adopting safe, healthy and environmentally responsible work practices in accordance with current organisational requirements which are equal to or exceed current statutory and legislative requirements
This standard is for people working in the occupational area of construction site supervision which is defined as the supervision of multiple construction trades and disciplines and can be used by operatives, supervisors and managers"
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
"P1 identify, record and use relevant information, from at least four of
the following sources, clarify any information which is not clear
and update it for production planning purposes:
1.1 survey reports
1.2 design information
1.3 contractual documents
1.4 statutory consents
1.5 planning information
1.6 health, safety and environmental plans
1.7 risk assessments and method statements
1.8 programmes
1.9 records about the competence of people
1.10 sub-contractor arrangements and attendance
1.11 safe systems of work
P2 identify and record at least four of the following factors which
might affect the proposed works, describe, summarise and
inform the people who may be affected:
2.1 occupiers
2.2 near neighbours
2.3 public access
2.4 site conditions
2.5 environmental considerations
2.6 vehicular access and egress
2.7 security and trespass
2.8 public utilities
2.9 heritage issues
2.10 archaeological
2.11 temporary works
P3 carry out consultations to identify and confirm safe access points
for the site and works which minimise disruption including works
traffic and pedestrian segregation
P4 confirm and record the arrangements for site safety, welfare and
security before work starts and throughout the construction
programme
P5 confirm and record at least four of the following available
resources:
5.1 people
5.2 plant, equipment or machinery
5.3 materials and components
5.4 sub-contractors
5.5 information
5.6 work area and facilities
5.7 waste management
5.8 utility providers
P6 implement the considerations given to at least four of the
following in relation to the site layout for operational
purposes, inform people who will be working on site and
record the relevant information provided about the site layout
plans:

6.2 temporary accommodation
6.3 work areas
6.4 plant
6.5 temporary services
6.6 access and egress
6.7 security
6.8 continuing use by occupiers
6.9 waste management
6.10 environmental control
6.11 provision for prefabricated components and systems
6.12 existing fabric
P7 implement and record the arrangements for the storage and
use of materials, equipment, components and consumables so
that material handling and movement is efficient and wastage is
minimised
P8 ensure notices are placed and maintained which provide
accurate information and which conform to organisational
requirements
P9 provide and record information about when the work will start,
how long it will take and when it will finish and distribute to all
those affected"
