​This standard identifies the competencies you need to capture digital images to required procedures and protocols. 
You will be required to demonstrate that you can capture the necessary digital images following the required organisational and regulatory procedures and protocols. 
The activity is likely to be undertaken by someone in a science-related work setting, including individuals working in hospitals, scientific laboratories and universities.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

​P1. ensure that your work is carried out in accordance with workplace proceduresP2. use safe practices and the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) when undertaking digital imaging meeting organisational requirements and proceduresP3. establish the requirements for the digital imaging activity being undertaken in line with organisational requirementsP4. identify hazards and assess risks against digital imaging requirementsP5. prepare the resources needed for the digital imaging activity being undertaken in accordance with organisational requirements and Standard Operating Procedures P6. capture required digital imaging in accordance with organisational procedures and Standard Operating Procedures  P7. label, package and store collected digital image in accordance with organisational and regulatory procedures
P8. communicate the required information about the digital image in accordance with departmental and organisational procedures.

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

​K1. the health and safety requirements of the area in which you are carrying out the digital imaging activitiesK2. legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines relating to digital imaging activities and the implications of not following them.  K3. the scientific or technical techniques and processes you must use in the workplaceK4. unique workplace coding system and the importance of using themK5. the organisational requirements for maintaining the security of the workplaceK7.  the required digital capture activity in accordance with organisational procedures and Standard Operating Procedures  K8. the lines of communication and your responsibilities in your department, and their links with the rest of the organisationK9. the limits of your own authority and to whom you should report to if you have problems that you cannot be resolveK10. why it is important to follow safe operating procedures when using digital imaging equipmentK11. the principles and procedures to capture digital images K13. the hazards, difficulties associated with capturing digital imagingK14. the relevant digital imaging methods that can be used to achieve the required image K16. how to check the sample identity and its integrityK17. the range of methods used to prepare samplesK18. how to identify defective equipment and the appropriate action to takeK19. the concepts of repeatability and reproducibilityK20. the potential impact of digital imaging on health, safety and the environmentK21.  the methods for labelling, packaging and storing collected digital images in accordance with organisational proceduresK22. the cleaning materials and the methods for their useK23. the methods of safe storage that can be usedK24 the organisational document control and reporting procedures that should be used
