Overview

This standard covers the competence required to dismantle and remove contaminated plant, structures and equipment used within nuclear facilities (assets) in accordance with specifications. This means the act of removal and disposal of the asset and/or removal or disposal of legacy waste items, contaminated plant and equipment.

This standard deals with the following:

During this work you must take account of the relevant worksite operational requirements, procedures and safe working practices AS THEY APPLY TO YOU.

The activity is likely to be undertaken by someone working in a  Nuclear Decommissioning environment.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines
P2 establish and, where appropriate, mark component for re-assembly                                                                                                   P3 ensure that any stored energy or substances are released safely and correctly
P4 make all isolations and disconnections to the equipment in line with approved procedures
P5 carry out the dismantling to the agreed level using correct tools and techniques
P6 store components for re-use in approved locations
P7 remove and dispose of unwanted components and substances in accordance with approved procedures
P8 deal promptly and effectively with problems within your control and report those that cannot be solved

You need to know and understand:

​K1 health and safety legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures
K2 how to access and interpret drawings and related specifications
K3 the methods and techniques used in dismantling
K4 the methods and techniques used in handling equipment
K5 the tools and equipment used to carry out dismantling and size reduction
K6 tool and equipment care and control procedures
K7 how to shield from radiation sources
K8 how to prevent the spread of contamination
K9 the properties and types of radiation present in the facility
K10 the storage arrangements for radioactive/contaminated items                                                                                                       K11 the waste disposal procedures
K12 reporting lines and procedures
