Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to contribute to maintenance procedures in jetty operations in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can:
1 Identify defective equipment and/or systems
2 Bring plant and equipment in and out of operation to meet requirements

During this work you must take account of the relevant operational requirements and safe working practices AS THEY APPLY TO YOU.

The activity is likely to be undertaken by someone in petro-chemical work setting, including individuals working in refineries, chemical plants and tank storage.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

P1 identify defective equipment
P2 mark defective equipment according to prescribed procedures
P3 promptly report the defective equipment to the appropriate people
P4 if required, stop operations until repaired
P5 deal promptly and effectively with problems that are your responsibility, and report those that you cannot solve and/or are not your responsibility to the relevant person
P6 communicate all relevant information to the appropriate people
P7 work safely in accordance with operational and environmental requirements
P8 obtain and establish operational requirements and check that they are correct
P9 check that the plant and equipment needed to fulfil operational requirements is available
P10 check that the plant and equipment is safe and ready for operation
P11 start the operation safely and in accordance with operational procedures
P12 monitor the plant and equipment during the operation
P13 complete the operation according to prescribed procedures


Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

K1 how to identify defective equipment
K2 how to mark the defective equipment according to prescribed procedures
K3 why it is important to follow all prescribed procedures
K4 how to report the defective equipment to the appropriate people
K5 who are the appropriate people
K6 when is it necessary to stop operations
K7 the procedure for stopping operations
K8 the appropriate action to take if the procedure cannot be followed

1.2 PV valves
1.3 response equipment
1.4 pressure gauges
1.5 valves
1.6 gauging
1.7 loading systems
1.8 pumps
1.9 access equipment
1.10 mobile equipment
1.1 1mobile towers

2 Obtain and establish operational requirements taking account of the following:
2.1 availability of plant and equipment
2.2 available operating parameters of plant and equipment
2.3 constraints – personnel, time, financial etc.
2.4 available corrective actions –adjust, request assistance, shut down
