Overview

This standard identifies the competencies you need to carry out emergency and environmental procedures in the transportation of hydrogen products in-line with operational and regulatory requirements.
  
You will be required to demonstrate that you can respond to an emergency or environmental situation safely and within the organisation’s time limit, raising the alarm, summoning help, and informing others in an emergency or environmental incident, complying with organisational and regulatory requirements.
This could include individuals working in the following industries, Chemical, Petro-Chemicals, Storage and Energy production.

For the purpose of this Standard, a Road Tanker is defined as a specialised transport vehicle designed for the safe and efficient transportation of large quantities of hydrogen, typically in its liquid or compressed gaseous state. These tankers are essential for the distribution of hydrogen to refuelling stations, industries, and other consumers who require hydrogen as an energy source or for various applications.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

P1 identify potential emergencies or environmental issues related to the transportation of hydrogen products
P2. wear the correct Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) to meet organisational and legal requirements
P3. respond to an emergency or environmental situation safely and within the organisations time limit  and procedures
P4. raise the alarm, summon help, and inform others in the event of an emergency or environmental situation, in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
P5. use communication equipment provided for emergency situations in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
P6. communicate clearly and effectively to relevant personnel in emergency situations in line with organisational and regulatory requirements. 
P7. implement and follow emergency or environmental procedures and protocols to minimise the impact of an incident in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
P8. use the correct emergency or environmental response equipment and procedures, including emergency shutdown procedures, and spill equipment, in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
P9. implement environmental protection policies and procedures to minimise harm to the environment in the event of a hydrogen transportation incident or emergency, in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
P10. identify and assess the situation in the event of an emergency involving hydrogen transportation and make decisions in accordance with emergency procedures in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
P11. maintain personal and others' safety while working in an emergency situation, in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.


Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

K1. the organisational and legal requirements related to hydrogen transportation, including emergency and environmental response and reporting
K2. the dangers, potential hazards and risks associated with hydrogen transportation, and hydrogen properties and behaviour in emergency situations, and how to minimise the risk of incidents
K3. the different types of emergencies that may occur during hydrogen transportation and their potential effects and impacts
K4. the safety features of the road tankers and equipment used for hydrogen transportation.
K5. the environmental protection policies and procedures related to hydrogen transportation.
K6. the emergency procedures and protocols related to hydrogen transportation
K7. the appropriate measures to take to minimise the impact of an emergency.
K8. the need for clear communication during an emergency
K9. the personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
K10. the employing organisation’s emergency response plan
