Overview

This standard exists in a test and evaluation role and covers the competences you need to evaluate results from the test and evaluation of explosive substances and or articles.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can analyse the data using accepted methods and procedures, reaching valid and logical conclusions from the available evidence and make appropriate recommendation in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as managers in research, design, development and procurement.

This standard replaces COGESA3.17 and COGESA3.18.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 ensure that you have the necessary data on which to conduct the analysis
P3 resolve any inconsistencies in the data
P4 analyse the data using accepted methods and procedures
P5 check that the data analysis is accurate, and takes account of the trial conditions
P6 reach valid and logical conclusions from the available evidence and make appropriate recommendations
P7 record the results of the analysis, in the correct format, and report your findings
P8 report the evaluation in accordance with your organization’s procedures
P9 adhere to the relevant quality standards
P10 maintain the requirements of confidentiality at all times


Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substance and or article
K4 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event
K5 the design of the item
K6 the customer’s objectives and needs
K7 the composition and functioning of explosive substances and articles under test
K8 the relevant performance specifications for the explosive substances and articles
K9 the tolerances defined by the performance specification
K10 the test criteria
K11 the limitations of the equipment
K12 the capabilities and limitations of data analysis methods and techniques
K13 how to interpret and collate information from different sources into suitable formats for comparison
K14 test documentation and procedures
K15 reporting lines and procedures
K16 any confidentiality requirements
K17 the relevant quality standards and compliance regime
K18 your own level of competence
