Overview
This standard exists within a research and development role and comprises of the following elements:
1. Carry out investigations into explosive substances and or articles
2. Analyse and evaluate research information on explosive substances and or articles
This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as researchers, research leaders, design managers and development managers.
This standard replaces COGESA1.11.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- Carry out investigations into explosive substances and or articles
P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 Develop a research plan and set up the investigation in line with the research plan
P3 use methods, techniques and apparatus in line with the procedures
P4 document any unexpected outcomes or incidents as they occur
P5 report any delays or problems experienced to all interested parties and adjust the research plan
P6 pay attention to hazards and risks arising from the investigation and take steps to minimize them
P7 document the details of the investigation and its outcomes in the format suitable for further use
P8 maintain the requirements of confidentiality at all times
- Analyse & evaluate research information on explosive substances and or articles
P9 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P10 select, adapt or devise new techniques of analysis and evaluation that are fit for purpose
P11 manage the evaluation when it is carried out by others, providing a clear and specific brief and ensure the consistency of the evaluation
P12 ensure that the analysis and evaluation techniques are cost-effective and can be applied using the available resources
P13 verify the correctness and quality of the analysis using accepted and valid techniques
P14 confirm your conclusions through the peer review process and act on the resulting feedback
P15 record the results of the analysis in the correct format
P16 meet your deadlines, taking action in the event of delays
P17 deliver the agreed outputs within budget or take action in the case of expected overspends
P18 maintain the requirements of confidentiality at all time
