Overview
This standard identifies the competencies and knowledge you need to assemble battery packs in battery manufacturing.
You will receive the appropriate instructions and information to select the required materials and equipment and safely assemble individual cells to product specifications to make battery packs.
During the process, you will be responsible for complying with company procedures, adhering to all safety and environmental protocols, and reporting any problems with your role to the relevant people if you cannot resolve them personally.
This Standard is for individuals working in the lithium-ion and post lithium-ion battery manufacturing industries.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- check that you have the correct work instructions and relevant information to assemble the battery pack in line with organisational requirements
- use the required personnel protective equipment in line with organisational and legal requirements
- check you have the correct equipment for the task and that the equipment is safe and functional
- confirm the correct quantities of materials in line with work instructions
- assemble the battery pack in line with the work instructions
- finish the battery pack in line with the work instructions
- check the product meets the required organisational quality standards
- report any unspecified quality results to the appropriate person in line with organisational requirements
- clean equipment in accordance with organisational and manufacturer requirements
- dispose of waste in accordance with company, environmental and legal procedures requirements
- leave the work area in a safe condition on completion of the work activities in accordance with company requirements
- deal with problems, reporting any which you cannot solve
- work safely at all times in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines and organisational requirements
- complete any records and documentation in accordance with organisational and legal requirements

You need to know and understand:
- the use and importance of working instructions for battery pack manufacture
- the materials used in battery pack manufacturing
- product specifications, health, safety and environmental considerations
- what personal protective equipment to use and why
- the functions and uses of the different types of equipment used in battery pack manufacturing
- the different handling characteristics of materials and equipment
- the importance of checking equipment is ready and safe to use
- how to assemble a battery pack
- the importance of meeting quality specifications
- the methods of checking products to quality specifications
- reporting procedures for faults and problems in line with organisational requirements
- how to clean equipment safely to meet organisational and legal requirements
- how to dispose of waste in accordance to environmental regulations
- how to deal with typical problems
- what your responsibilities are in respect of Health, Safety, Emergency and Environment. This should include the limits of your personal responsibility, your legal responsibility for your own health and safety and the health and safety of others
- the hazards associated with battery pack manufacturing and how to minimise
- the data protection legislation, regulations, standards and workplace procedures relevant to your role
- the requirements for documentation and record keeping relating to manufacturing to meet organisational and legal quality requirements
