Overview

This standard identifies the competencies and knowledge you need to test and grade cells in battery manufacturing.
 
Formation, testing, and grading a cell after manufacture is critical to its future use. You will follow a process to safely store cells to allow for formation before performing tests to grade individual cells.

During the process, you will be responsible for complying with company procedures, adhering to all safety and environmental protocols, and reporting any problems with your role to the relevant people if you cannot resolve them personally.
 
This Standard is for individuals working in the lithium-ion and post lithium-ion battery manufacturing industries.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. use the required personnel protective equipment in line with organisational and legal requirements
  2. receive and check cells in accordance with organisational requirements
  3. safely handle cells in accordance with organisational requirements
  4. store cell in accordance with organisational requirements
  5. monitor cells in accordance with organisational requirements
  6. select and check you have the correct equipment for the testing and that the equipment is safe and functional
  7. conduct tests in accordance with organisational requirements
  8. analyse test data in accordance with organisational requirements
  9. use analysis to grade cells in accordance with organisational requirements
  10. report any unspecified results to the appropriate person
  11. complete any records and documentation in accordance with organisational requirements.
  12. deal with problems, reporting any which you cannot solve
  13. work safely at all times in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines, and organisational requirements
  14. monitor the work environment for fire risk

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. the use and importance of working instructions for grading and testing cells
  2. what personal protective equipment to use and why
  3. the safety and environment procedures when handling cells
  4. how to handle equipment safely to protect yourself and others
  5. how to run a Human Machine Interface to start, monitor and adjust process parameters
  6. organisational testing methods
  7. how to analyse and identify trends
  8. cell grading methods
  9. reporting procedures for faults and problems in line with organisational requirements
  10. how to deal with typical problems
  11. the requirements for documentation and record keeping to meet organisational and legal quality requirements
  12. what your responsibilities are in respect of Health, Safety, Emergency and Environment. This should include the limits of your personal responsibility, your legal responsibility for your own health and safety and the health and safety of others
  13. the data protection legislation, regulations, standards and workplace procedures relevant to you role
  14. the hazards associated with formation, testing and grading within battery manufacturing
