Prepare pipelines and hoses within bulk liquid operations
Overview
This standard covers the competences you need to prepare pipelines and hoses within bulk liquid operations.
You will be required to demonstrate that you can rig lines, set valves and fill the pipeline or hose with product, enabling the displacement of the product in accordance with authorised procedures.
During this work you must take account of the relevant operational requirements and safe working practices AS THEY APPLY TO YOU.
The activity is likely to be undertaken by someone in petrochemical work setting, including individuals working in refineries, chemical plants and tank storage.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 use safe lifting and moving techniques
P2 ensure that rigging equipment used conforms to the job specification
P3 correctly make all connections
P4 correctly set all valves
P5 correctly fill the appropriate pipelines or hoses
P6 vent the air and vapour as appropriate
P7 ensure that all relevant valves are checked and set correctly
P8 check the integrity of pipelines or hoses
P9 ensure that the displacement medium, equipment and techniques are appropriate
P10 ensure that confirmation is received regarding ullage and any other relevant tank movements
P11 effectively set and secure the pipelines or hoses
P12 ensure that the amount of product remaining on completion is within given limits
P13 communicate all relevant information to the appropriate people
P14 work safely in accordance with operational requirements
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
K1 how to select, use and care for PPE
