Overview

This standard covers the skills to keep up-to-date with the jewellery industry, allied trades and related technologies as relevant to own work.  You will be required to maintain an awareness of trends and developments that may affect the demand for, or impact on, particular products and embrace the change and challenge brought about by such trends and developments.  

It also involves you testing different options available to meet skills needs, which may include in-house development, secondment, formal training courses, online learning and other learning opportunities.​

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. research existing and emerging technologies and trends in line with own professional development needs
  2. discuss with others ways of using existing and emerging technologies and trends in daily practice in line with own professional development needs
  3. join forums, newsletters and information services to receive updates on existing and emerging technologies in own field of interest in line with own professional development needs
  4. share research findings with colleagues or peers in line with industry best practice
  5. assess research findings against current offer of products in line with industry best practice
  6. test new techniques, materials and equipment emerging from trends in line with industry best practice
  7. adapt own market offer in line with emerging technologies and trends in line with business plan
  8. present findings on research into existing and emerging technologies to others in line with industry best practice
  9. establish personal contacts and networks that support and inform own work activities in line with own professional development
  10. select professional development aids to improve own practice in line with industry best practice​

You need to know and understand:

  1. ​where to find sources of information about emerging technologies, trends and opportunities in chosen industry
  2. the importance of keeping up to date with current technologies, trends and working practices
  3. different types of skills development available
