Overview

This standard is for those who manage work activities and resources to meet building services engineering project requirements

The individual undertaking this work must be able to assess project data, calculate resource requirements, and optimise use of resources. They will be able to select work methods, plan activities and communicate with relevant others to minimise potential problems. They must also identify personnel required to complete the project, negotiate contracts as required and brief members of the project workforce. They will be able to monitor the work of the project workforce and provide feedback to them on their performance.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1.    access current and relevant information about the project requirements

2.    produce a risk assessment in accordance with organisational procedures for the work to be undertaken

3.    determine the resources required using the available information, and obtain clarification and advice from relevant others if the resources required are not available

4.    develop a programme of work with in accordance with organisational procedures and communicate it to relevant others  

5.    allocate duties and responsibilities to relevant others in accordance with the programme of work

6.    confirm that all instructions given, and other communication provided, are understood

7.    coordinate the work and all resources

8.    monitor, as appropriate, that the work is safe, fit-for-purpose, cost effective and in accordance with:

  • the programme of work
  • industry recognised working practices
  • the specification
  • the current versions of appropriate industry standards and regulations

9.    ensure that safe and appropriate action is taken promptly where a non-compliance is identified during the programme of work

10.  ensure that all documentation associated with the work is in accordance with:

  • organisational procedures
  • the current versions of appropriate industry standards and regulations

11.  verify that all resources are:

  • in alignment with the programme of work
  • compatible to the working environment
  • fit for purpose
  • in accordance with the specification
  • of the required and correct type
  • delivered on time and undamaged
  • suitable and safely stored

12.  confirm that the work completed is in accordance with:

  • quality requirements
  • the programme of work
  • the specification
  • the current versions of appropriate industry standards and regulations

13.  complete the specified work activity in accordance with industry recognised methods and practices

14.  provide relevant information to relevant others about the environmental technology system and equipment in terms of:

  • work progress
  • use, safety and control
  • any variations to the original system and/or its equipment
  • hand over to the customer/client
  • customer/client acceptance of the completed work in accordance with organisational procedures
  • relevant documentation being completed and recorded in the appropriate information systems in accordance with organisational procedures

15.  complete and safely store all relevant documentation in accordance with organisational requirements

16.  deal promptly and effectively with any problems within the scope and limitations of your own competence, responsibilities and accountability and report those which cannot be solved

17.  implement organisational procedures for the safe transport and/or disposal of waste materials, substances and liquids in accordance with suppliers' and manufacturers' instructions and relevant legislation


Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

1.    the current legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols which are relevant to your working practice and to which you must adhere

2.    the scope and limitations of your own competence, responsibilities and accountability as it applies to your job role

  • obtaining customer/client acceptance of the installed system and its associated equipment, accessories and components post work activity and how to deal with cases where acceptance is not received
  • the safe transport and/or disposal of any waste material, substances and liquids in accordance with suppliers' and manufacturers' instructions and legislation
