Overview

This standard is for people who manage the data generated by IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment.
 
The person performing this work must be able to comply with the correct procedures and practices for collecting and collating the data generated by IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment. This work must be in accordance with the current versions of the appropriate industry standards and regulations; the specification; industry recognised working practices; the working environment and the natural environment.
 
They must know and understand:
 

  • Ventilation systems
  • Filtration systems
  • Purification systems
  • Monitoring and metering systems
  • Site services and system supplies
  • Methods and techniques for surveying, identifying and selecting IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1.    confirm before work starts that the work location and work area can be accessed safely and has been checked for the risk to other personnel on the site, and take appropriate action if a risk is present
2.    produce a risk assessment and method statement for the work to be carried out, including the identification and use of personal protective equipment, in accordance with the working environment
3.    collate all relevant data in accordance with organisational procedures
4.    confirm, or otherwise, the ongoing fitness for purpose of the current IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment
5.    make recommendations for improvements to the type and use of IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment
6.    confirm ongoing compatibility of the IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment with other relevant systems where these exist
7.    communicate recommendations to relevant others
8.    confirm agreement with recommendations or review recommendations based on feedback
9.    confirm with the relevant people:
·         those variations to the planned programme of work
·         the actions to be taken to ensure that any variations to the planned programme of work will minimise the potential for hazard risk
10.  comply with organisational procedures for:
·         completion of the relevant documentation
·         the recording of relevant data and information
·         informing relevant people

  • addressing issues and problems identified

You need to know and understand:

1.    the scope and limitations of your own competence, responsibilities and accountability as it applies to your job role
2.    the appropriate industry standards, regulations and standards relevant to IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment
3.    the range of physical, biological and chemical properties relevant to Indoor Air Quality
4.    the health implications associated with the physical, biological and chemical properties relevant to Indoor Air Quality
5.    the applications, advantages and limitations of different IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment
6.    the applications, advantages and limitations of appliances, components and accessories in relation to the working environment
7.    how to produce a risk assessment and method statement for the work to be carried out, including the identification and use of personal protective equipment, in accordance with:

9.    procedures for recommending and agreeing specific improvements to IAQ monitoring and measurement equipment and relevant appliances, components and accessories with relevant others
10.  the organisational procedures for confirming with the relevant people the appropriate actions to be taken to ensure that any variations to the planned programme of work will not introduce a hazard and have minimum negative impact on the installation work to be undertaken
11.  the methods for the safe transport and/or disposal of waste materials, substances and liquids in accordance with suppliers’ and manufacturer instructions
12.  the organisational procedures for:
·         completion of the relevant documentation
·         the recording of relevant data and information
·         informing relevant people
·         addressing issues and problems identified
